And the winners are.....

LISA & JOEL!!!!!

Lisa, you're right, the first is the air vent.  This was my original idea for What is It? Wednesday.  I was gonna write something handy about spring cleaning, blah, blah, but then....

The garbage disposal (Yeah, Joel you were right!!) temporarily died.  Well, I killed it.  With about 4 of these....

Yes, I put them down whole.  No, I wasn't thinking.  Sometimes these days my hands move separate from my brain.  I'm still playing the lack of sleep card.  Otherwise, for things like this, I look REALLY stupid.

So, then the garbage disposal breathed it's last breath and just stopped.  Yep.  No gentle humming.  Nothing.  Dead silence.  I have to say, I am ultra proud of Ernie.  He just reached down and reset it. Who knew there was a reset button?  Yeah, yeah, I'm sure everyone but me. Anyway, he reset it.  I fished out all the orange shrapnel, and it worked like a charm.

Until this morning.  Right as I was about to post my What is It? A torrential downpour gushed off the side of the kitchen cabinet.  It was happening.  Niagara Falls was moving in!

Quick as a jack rabbit (like that? :) I cleaned off the counter...all Roman's sweet school papers I had waiting to be filed (aghghh!), Dane's bottle basket, coupons, congrats cards to keep for Dane, my phone, my watch, and other general junk.  Got it under control and settled back into the groove.  I left the dishwasher running because I'm an idiot and went upstairs to start laundry.

In the meantime, the dishwasher took revenge and dumped all THIS on the counter and onto my floor....

Where is this coming from you ask?  My super sleuth skills led me to follow my ears and discovered THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Leak sprung!  Niagara Falls was a direct result of Old Faithful!

Of course, I was sprinting to and fro our bathroom fetching towel after towel.  Yep, I'm not even smart enough to grab a stack while I'm there.  Always the optimist (this one'll do it).  And, no, at this point, I haven't turned off the dishwasher.  I needed bottles and I had other things to do with my remaining minutes alone (like blog).  Besides, I'm all about multi-tasking.  Hello?  If I can wash clothes, dishes, AND blog, why not?

Small error in thinking....THIS dishwashing experience is OBVIOUSLY not saving me ANY time.

So, at the end of it all.  I gave in and turned off the dishwasher and ended up with an entire load of laundry.  At least I can multi-task. :)

Let's review.  Stuck clementines in disposal.  Killed disposal. Husband resuscitated disposal.  Dishwasher revolted.  Kitchen flooded.  Lots of laundry.  Hand washed bottles.  Dishwasher STILL broken.

THANK GOODNESS we have great neighbors who know about plumbing.  AMama had called during the flooding so she was hip to the events of the day.  Her husband BDaddy is a contractor extraordinaire, so he hooked us up.  He brought his handy dandy snake and guess what he got?

So, the moral of this story is if you want to put old clementines down your garbage disposal, CUT THEM IN SMALL PIECES.  They'll give a wonderful aroma without causing mayhem!

OMG! What a nightmare. I completely agree that lack of sleep makes you do really strange things. Let me guess which child ate the chapstick????
